MSIT rated excellent across all categories in first government performance review under Lee Jae-myung administration

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT received an excellent rating across all categories in the government’s 2025 performance review, the Office for Government Policy Coordination said on Monday. The assessment covered 47 central administrative agencies in four areas: key policies, regulatory rationalisation, government innovation and policy communication. It involved 210 private-sector experts and reflected a public satisfaction survey of 49,408 people. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries was also rated excellent in all categories.

South Korea reports 26 percent jump in cyber incidents in 2025 as attacks hit daily life infrastructure

South Korea’s reported cyber intrusion incidents rose about 26.3 percent in 2025 to 2,383, driven by a sharp increase in the second half, the Ministry of Science and ICT and KISA said. Authorities cited repeated attacks on sectors tied to daily life, including telecoms, distribution and finance, as well as supply-chain attacks exploiting open-source and low-cost IoT ecosystems. They warned in 2026 of AI-enabled phishing, attacks on AI service models, legacy-system targeting and increased cloud risks, plus secondary threats using leaked personal data.

Transparent PET bottles from national parks to be recycled via post office network

Transparent PET bottles separated for recycling at national parks across South Korea will be collected through the post office network and delivered to a recycled-material producer under a new circulation system. The Post Office, the Korea National Park Service and other partners will sign an agreement on Jan. 28. The program starts in March and initially covers 12 of 23 parks where four-wheel delivery and sorting facilities are available.
