[DigitalToday reporter Hyunwoo Choo] AI startup JI Lab has officially launched Preterview, an AI mock interview service that reads portfolios and job postings as they are and asks follow-up questions by voice.

Preterview is a service in which applicants upload their resume and portfolio along with the job posting they plan to apply for, and 3 AI interviewers read the material and conduct a voice mock interview. It asks questions that practical interviewers probe in real interviews, such as, "Exactly how much of the team project did you make yourself?" Follow-up questions continue depending on the answers. After the interview, it leaves a feedback report by response that analyses even speaking style and hesitation.

It scores portfolios from a recruiter’s perspective across 5 dimensions including structure, results and completeness. It points out strengths and shortcomings with supporting sentences and also suggests how to revise them.

Question design used an in-house dataset that collected and refined about 20,000 interview reviews and recruitment screening data from South Korea and abroad accumulated over 10 years since 2016. It covers not only developer roles but also non-developer roles, professional jobs and service jobs, and questions and evaluation criteria vary depending on job category and years of experience. Interview records and reports accumulate in an account, allowing repeated practice focused on weak questions.

JI Lab CEO Dongseok Ji (지동석) said, "There are few interview opportunities, but ways to practise are limited, and portfolios are the material most often used in interviews, but almost no applicants design around them," adding, "There is bound to be a difference in the interview room between someone who has received follow-up questions on their own projects and someone who has not."

Preterview can be used on its official website without separate installation, and it also provides an English version. One mock interview is free upon sign-up, and after that it can be purchased per session without a subscription from 9,900 won. It is in talks with 2 game-specialised high schools about a pilot operation in the second semester.
