Apple has released iOS 27 beta 5 for developers. On Aug. 10 local time, IT outlet 9to5Mac reported that developers can install the new version by going to Settings, General, Software Update and then Beta Updates, and selecting “iOS 27 Developer Beta.”

Beta 5 changes the app icons for Safari, Siri, Remote and Preview, and further polishes some other icons to match the Liquid Glass design. The update applies new icons across several system apps. More app icons are also changing across iOS 27, including Maps, Photos and Wallet.

Siri’s enhanced voices also now support U.K. English. That brings the number of Siri voices that support speed and expressiveness controls to 11. Users can adjust each in five steps by moving the “Speed” and “Expressiveness” sliders in the Siri Voice menu in Settings.

In particular, the latest iPhones let users choose from eight U.S. voices and four U.K. voices. All of these voices support speed and expressiveness controls. The new Siri voices are supported only on the latest devices, including iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, iPad Pro (M4) and later, and Macs with an M3 chip or later and at least 12GB of memory.

Search settings have also changed. A “Before Search” item has been added, allowing users to adjust the number of app suggestions, app shortcut suggestions and the display of recent searches. The setting affects Home Screen search suggestions.

iOS 27 is an iPhone update centered on Siri AI, Apple Intelligence, Liquid Glass improvements and strengthened convenience features. Siri AI is a voice assistant rebuilt on next-generation Apple Intelligence and a new Apple foundation model. It supports more natural conversations, understanding of personal context, expanded knowledge, on-screen awareness and systemwide linkage of app actions.

Devices supported for this update are iPhone 11 and later models, and iPhone SE second generation and later models.

Apple plans to continue beta testing iOS 27 throughout August. The official version is set to be released in September alongside a new iPhone lineup. Beta versions can have bugs, changes in battery life and app compatibility issues, requiring careful installation on a primary iPhone.

Beta 5 focuses on refining user-facing areas such as icons, search settings and voice support rather than adding major features. It is seen as part of Apple’s process of raising iOS 27’s completeness ahead of its September release.
