Sony Korea will launch the super telephoto zoom lens FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS (SEL100400) in South Korea on Aug. 11. It is Sony’s new telephoto lens, from a company that has the largest lens lineup among mirrorless camera brands and has held the top spot in South Korea’s full-frame camera market for seven consecutive years.

The SEL100400 has a maximum diameter of 78.2 mm, a length of 164.5 mm and weighs 654 g, making it light and compact for a super telephoto zoom lens. It uses two Super ED (extra-low dispersion) elements and two aspherical elements to deliver strong resolution even at long distances. A dual linear motor supports fast and accurate autofocus, allowing stable capture of moving subjects such as birds and sports, and optical image stabilisation helps suppress shake during handheld shooting.

Its minimum focusing distance is 0.86 m at the telephoto end (400 mm) and 1.13 m at the wide end (100 mm), and its maximum magnification is 0.41x. With a teleconverter (SEL20TC), focal length can be extended to a maximum of 800 mm, and up to 1,200 mm in APS-C mode. It applies a dust- and moisture-resistant design.

A Sony Korea official said, "The SEL100400 improves portability with a compact size while maintaining the performance of a super telephoto zoom lens." The official added, "It will be an optimal choice for those starting super telephoto shooting or those who enjoy photography as a hobby."

The SEL100400 is priced at 1,299,000 won and can be purchased at Sony Store’s official online and offline retailers.
