U.S. SEC revamps rules for crypto investment contracts, focusing on clarity and investor protection

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has unveiled proposed rules for investment contracts involving cryptocurrencies. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce called the proposal a step toward clearer, enforceable digital asset regulation and away from unsuitable past rules. Chair Paul Atkins also backed the plan, saying enforcement-driven actions had pushed U.S. investors overseas. The proposal follows stalled Senate progress on the Clarity bill, prompting the SEC to pursue its own rulemaking.

Sell before iPhone 18 as existing iPhone resale prices may drop up to 30 percent

Users planning to sell an existing iPhone ahead of the iPhone 18 launch may benefit from moving quickly, as resale prices could fall by up to 30 percent within weeks of the new model’s reveal. Sam Wilson of refurbished device trader GadgetGogo said higher-end models such as Pro and Pro Max could drop by 150 to 300 pounds soon after launch. He suggested using buyback services that lock in current prices.

U.S. OCC to issue final Genius Act rule in November, speeding stablecoin framework

The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency plans to finalise by November the implementing rules for the Genius Act, a bill on payment stablecoins. OCC chief Jonathan Gould said the agency will review industry feedback on a draft released in February and publish the final rule ahead of the law’s January 2027 start date to reduce regulatory gaps. The act requires the Treasury, FDIC and the Federal Reserve Board to craft detailed rules, and licensing reviews could begin in 2027.
