Democratic Party says it will prepare digital asset framework act within year, hold hearing soon

South Korea's Democratic Party reiterated its intent to enact a digital asset framework act within the year, saying a legal basis should come first and be supplemented later. Lawmaker Min Byung-deok said delays are leaving the country without adequate rules as global markets move quickly. Another lawmaker, Ahn Do-geol, called for formalising digital asset-linked products with investor protections and cited issues such as volatility, trading-hour gaps and on-chain risks. He also highlighted stablecoin legislation and plans for hearings.

Deputy minister Ryu Je-myung meets Botswana vice president to discuss AI, ICT cooperation

Ryu Je-myung (류제명), South Korea's second vice minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, met Botswana Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe on Wednesday to discuss cooperation in AI and ICT. The meeting was held at Botswana's request as it pursues a shift to a digital and knowledge-based economy. Ryu shared South Korea's innovation experience and outlined major AI policies, including projects aimed at public services and reducing the digital divide.

Nexthrus raises 3.8 billion won from KT, LGU+ and Certik as strategic shareholders

Nexthrus is bringing in KT, LG Uplus and Certik as new shareholders, expanding its telecommunications and security partnerships into an equity relationship. The company disclosed it decided at a board meeting on Sept. 10 to carry out a third-party allocation paid-in capital increase targeting the three firms. It plans to issue 2,151,443 new shares, raising about 3.8 billion won. Payment is due on Sept. 18 and the shares will be locked up for 1 year.
