MSIT to adopt Korean NPUs in public CCTV for real-time disaster, accident detection

South Korea will convert public CCTV systems into AI-based monitoring using domestically developed neural processing units, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency said on July 28. It will spend 11.68 billion won this year, including 10 billion won in central government funds, to apply NPUs to about 18,100 cameras. Gyeongsangnam-do, Ulsan and Korea Expressway Corp were selected as users.

China starts domestic production of DUV lithography tools; ASML and chip equipment stocks slide

A Chinese state-owned company has been reported to begin producing immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography equipment, a key tool for semiconductor manufacturing, raising tension in the global chip equipment market. The company is said to plan supplies to Chinese chipmakers including SMIC and CXMT. Commercial deployment is expected to take time, with limited output targets. ASML shares fell about 7 percent and other related stocks also declined.

Warning signs as game industry growth slows, calls for tax credits for production costs

As growth and exports in South Korea's game industry slow, participants at a policy forum called for expanded support such as tax credits for game production costs. Korea Creative Content Agency executive Song Jin said games account for about 15 percent of content industry sales and 60.4 percent of exports, but get 6.9 percent of the budget. He projected 2030 targets would be missed without additional intervention. Speakers also urged tax and financing measures and listing incentives.
