MoonPay, a global crypto payments and stablecoin infrastructure company, said on Sept. 17 it hired former Streami vice president Hi Hangyeol Choi (최한결) as MoonPay Korea's VP of Strategy.
MoonPay plans to use Choi's appointment to expand cooperation with domestic financial companies and key partners.
Choi began his career in proprietary investment (PI) at Mirae Asset Securities and then handled investment work at IBK Industrial Bank of Korea. He later worked for more than eight years at Streami, which operates the domestic won-based crypto exchange GOPAX.
At Streami, he oversaw overall exchange management, including business strategy, cooperation with financial institutions and regulators, and external affairs. He served as vice president until recently.
Choi will oversee the development of MoonPay Korea's mid- to long-term growth strategy and business development in the South Korean market. He will focus on applying MoonPay's payments and digital-asset infrastructure capabilities to the local market environment and on identifying opportunities for strategic collaboration with financial companies and key partners.
MoonPay co-founder and head of Asia Boo-gun Lee (이부건) said, "South Korea's digital-asset market is rapidly expanding from trading-focused activity into diverse areas such as stablecoins and payments, on- and off-ramps, and financial infrastructure." He said Choi's appointment, backed by experience in both traditional finance and the digital-asset industry as well as a deep understanding of the South Korean market and regulatory environment, is expected to play an important role in making MoonPay's South Korea business strategy more concrete.
