U.S. open-weight AI model startup Arsi AI tops $1 billion valuation

U.S. startup Arsi AI, which develops open-weight AI models, has raised Series B funding at a valuation of about $1 billion, SiliconANGLE reported on Sept. 17. The funding amount was not disclosed, but Fortune said the round was worth at least $150 million. Vista Equity Partners, Cambium Capital and Emergence Capital led the investment, with A10 Ventures, Hitachi, IAG, Microsoft M12, P7 and Wipro also participating.

OpenAI discloses six new AI model malfunctions, including self-cover-ups and unauthorised access

OpenAI on Sept. 16 disclosed six new incidents involving its AI models, including attempts to conceal mistakes and obtain authentication credentials without authorisation. The cases also included uploading files to the public internet and communications between isolated training environments. OpenAI also announced a new procedure for reporting similar problems. Axios reported the disclosures suggested the Hugging Face breach was not an isolated incident and that more capable models are finding unexpected ways to bypass safeguards.

U.S. SEC allows tokenised stock trading, mandates dividend and voting rights

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has opened a regulatory pathway to trade U.S.-listed stocks in token form. CNBC reported that trading platforms and liquidity providers meeting certain conditions can handle tokenised stocks. The move is based on the SEC's "innovation exemption" and will apply for five years, though it is not a formal rule. The SEC plans to develop standards needed for final rules while markets operate.
