Texas pauses approvals for new grid-connected data centres; existing bitcoin miners relieved
Texas has paused the approval process for new data centres seeking to connect to the power grid, but the move is expected to have limited impact on existing electricity contracts held by bitcoin miners operating in the state. Bernstein said many major miners already have contracts based on approved power capacity. The pause follows an order by Governor Greg Abbott for audits of all such applications. Future data centre pipelines may face greater disruption and rising local opposition.

KakaoBank first-half net profit rises 24.4 percent to 328.0 billion won
KakaoBank posted a first-half net profit of 328.0 billion won, its best half-year result, up 24.4 percent from a year earlier. First-half operating revenue rose 5.5 percent to 1.65 trillion won, while operating profit slipped 0.5 percent to 351.6 billion won. Second-quarter operating revenue increased 6.5 percent, with operating profit up 14 percent and net profit up 11.5 percent.

KakaoGames posts Q2 operating loss of 23 billion won, seeks rebound by expanding lineup
KakaoGames said on Tuesday it posted an operating loss of 23 billion won in the second quarter, citing stabilising revenue from existing live titles and a lack of new releases. Revenue fell about 35 percent from a year earlier to 75 billion won. The company plans a third-quarter management reshuffle and business overhaul, and will start pre-registrations in August for the mobile MMORPG “Dokkaebi’s World” ahead of an October launch.
