Cardano (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson said he is pushing ahead with a new project in Texas that would be the largest of his career. Details and the timing of its disclosure have not been made known.
On Sept. 23 (local time), blockchain outlet Decrypt reported that Hoskinson said in a recent YouTube AMA that he was working on a special project in Texas and wanted to unveil it within the year.
Hoskinson described the project as “something bigger than Cardano.” He said it would be the biggest undertaking of his career and stressed it was on a “world-changing” level. He did not disclose what sector it is in or what specific technology or services he is developing.
On the project, Hoskinson also mentioned that it was “related to terraforming the entire Earth.” This appeared less a concrete description of the business and more a remark to underscore its scale, and confirmed details remain limited.
The remarks came as he discussed the possibility of his involvement in Cardano governance. Cardano has an on-chain governance structure involving delegated representatives (DReps), stake pool operators and a constitutional committee. Major decisions also require approvals from multiple parties.
Hoskinson said he previously reviewed a plan to form a voting bloc to exert influence over Cardano governance. At the time, he also raised the possibility of securing 20 to 30 percent of the network’s voting power. He ultimately dropped the plan, judging that community conflict over governance could continue for a long period.
He said that if Cardano’s price or adoption pace falls short of expectations, he and Input Output could become the focus of criticism. He also mentioned the possibility that disputes could widen to include calls to replace the Cardano Foundation or to claw back funds.
Instead, Hoskinson said he wants to focus on other projects such as Forgon, RealFi and Midnight City. He is also continuing his interest not only in artificial intelligence and blockchain but also in regenerative medicine. He said one of the regenerative medicine-related products was nearing clinical trials.
He also said it was important to focus on new business and research rather than spending time on disputes over Cardano governance. He pointed out that time spent arguing over governance takes away time that could be put into other projects.
Ultimately, market attention is expected to focus on what the Texas project is. Hoskinson has stressed it is bigger than Cardano, but so far what is known is that he is working in Texas and is aiming to reveal it within the year. The specific business content and the actual timing of disclosure are expected to emerge through future announcements.
