U.S. CLARITY bill pushed to September; White House vows to press for passage

The Trump administration is sticking to a plan to pass the U.S. Senate’s CLARITY bill on digital asset market structure in September despite a delay in the chamber’s schedule. The White House’s top cryptocurrency policy official said negotiations would continue after the Senate’s August recess. Patrick Witt said the administration would keep talking with Democrats until just before the September vote, while warning delays cannot last indefinitely.

Google cuts Google Play fees in South Korea to as low as 10 percent, expands in-app and external payments

Google will expand payment options for Google Play developers in South Korea and cut service fees to as low as 10 percent. Developers can offer alternative payment systems or link users to external websites, subject to Google safety requirements. A 10 percent fee applies to the first $1 million of annual revenue generated on Google Play and to auto-renewing subscriptions. The changes take effect in South Korea on Dec. 31.

Samsung SDI secures standalone North America plant by buying GM stake

Samsung SDI has overhauled its partnership structure with General Motors to respond to changes in the North American market. It signed a joint development agreement with GM to jointly develop next-generation prismatic batteries for electric vehicles and will buy GM's entire 49.99 percent stake in the SynergyCells joint venture. Once the stake purchase is completed, Samsung SDI will have its first standalone battery plant in North America.
