Nevada authorities sue Coinbase over unlicensed gambling

Nevada authorities sued Coinbase on allegations of unlicensed sports gambling, Cointelegraph reported on Feb. 3. The Nevada Gaming Control Board said Coinbase offered illegal gambling through sports event contracts and asked a court for an injunction to ban operation of a Coinbase derivatives exchange and prediction markets. The action came a week after Coinbase partnered with Kalshi to open prediction markets across all 50 U.S. states.

TRM Labs reaches $1 billion valuation after $70 million Series C round

Blockchain intelligence platform TRM Labs has completed a $70 million Series C funding round, reaching a $1 billion valuation, Cointelegraph reported on Feb. 4. Investors included Blockchain Capital, Goldman Sachs, Bessemer Venture Partners, Brevan Howard Digital, Citi Ventures and Galaxy Ventures. TRM Labs develops AI solutions for public and private institutions to respond to cybercrime, focusing on blocking automated illicit activity. It plans to use the funds to hire more researchers and specialists and enhance AI-led investigations.

Amazon to start testing AI tools for film and TV production in March

Amazon MGM Studios is stepping up development of AI tools for film and TV production and plans to begin a closed beta programme with industry partners in March, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 4, citing Reuters. Albert Cheng said the goal is to support production teams rather than replace creators, while improving efficiency and reducing costs. Amazon is working with producers and animators and plans to apply large language models with AWS.
