Microsoft will disclose quarterly revenue for its Azure cloud business for the first time. The move comes alongside an overhaul of its reporting structure that cuts its business units to 2 from 3. Investors will be able to compare Azure results more directly with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

Microsoft has so far disclosed only year-on-year growth rates for Azure, and since last year has provided only annual revenue.

Under the new standard, Azure revenue for the quarter ended in June was $29.42 billion, up 42 percent from a year earlier. Azure accounted for about 33 percent of Microsoft's total revenue in the latest quarter.

The overhaul will also change the scope of Azure revenue. GitHub cloud services, developer cloud services, Security Copilot and healthcare and life sciences cloud products will be excluded from Azure. Chief Executive Satya Nadella (사티아 나델라) said in presentation materials, "Under the new system, Azure will focus more on consumption-based platform and infrastructure businesses."

Microsoft will reorganise into 'Agent & Infrastructure' and 'Device & Consumer' divisions. The Agent & Infrastructure division includes Azure, Microsoft 365 cloud products, productivity and server licensing, industry-specific solutions, and frontier and support services. The Device & Consumer division covers search and advertising, Xbox, device sales, and Windows 11 licensing revenue from device manufacturers.

Microsoft will share more detailed information on AI assistant services such as Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot under the new system. Microsoft said in July that the number of paid Microsoft 365 Copilot users exceeded 30 million. That was an increase of about half from 20 million in April.
