KakaoGames said on Tuesday it made a strategic investment in BackendX, an AI-based company providing automated backend development and operations services.

KakaoGames plans to use the investment to identify promising indie and small game developers early and seek business opportunities that could lead to future acquisitions and publishing. It is also pursuing a plan to provide BackendX services to small developers with which it has signed publishing deals.

BackendX has developed a solution in which users write a software blueprint in natural language and a pipeline made up of about 50 AI agents automatically handles everything from backend setup to deployment and operations. It is targeting the "vibe coding" market, where people can build applications without being professional developers.

The company was founded in July 2025 by CEO Dae-kyung Moon (문대경), who previously served as head of a new technology development office and a server team leader at Nexon Korea, and as head of game server engine developer iFunFactory. BackendX plans to launch its full service on Sept. 7 and is currently taking pre-registrations.

KakaoGames decided to invest after concluding that as the vibe coding market grows, demand will also rise for backend solutions that support service operations and deployment.

KakaoGames CEO Tae-hwan Kim (김태환) said BackendX's solution is highly valuable because indie game developers can use it easily in the global market. He said the company will expand company-wide use of AI technologies in line with the era of AI transformation (AX) and raise its business competitiveness and corporate value.
