Last week, $1.92 billion flowed into bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on a net basis, marking the strongest weekly inflow since October 2025.

On Aug. 24 (local time), blockchain media outlet Cointelegraph reported that as bitcoin rose above $78,000 late in the week, ETF supply and demand also improved rapidly.

Data compiled by SoSoValue showed weekly net inflows of $1.92 billion for the week ended Aug. 21. It marked a clear reversal from recent months, when inflows and outflows alternated. Over the same period, bitcoin started the week around $63,000 and jumped more than 20 percent for the week, briefly rising above $79,000 on Aug. 22.

ETF analyst Nate Geraci (네이트 게라시) pointed out on Aug. 23 that about $700 million also flowed into ethereum spot ETFs. He said both bitcoin and ethereum spot ETFs posted their strongest weekly inflows since October 2025.

The year-to-date trend has not fully recovered. Bitcoin spot ETFs have recorded net outflows of about $2.91 billion so far in 2026. In June, $4.51 billion left, the largest monthly outflow on record, and $2.43 billion also flowed out in May. By contrast, cumulative net inflows for August stood at $2.38 billion as of Aug. 21, the strongest monthly inflow this year.

This rebound was led by BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT). Data compiled by Farside Investors showed IBIT drew inflows for five consecutive trading days last week, attracting a total of $1.33 billion. Daily inflows rose from $160.2 million on Aug. 18 to $503 million on Aug. 21, then eased to $239.3 million on Aug. 22.

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas (에릭 발추나스) said IBIT's daily flows showed a "classic Flipping the Bird pattern" and described it as a bullish signal. As inflows continued into the latter half of the week, investor sentiment appeared to rebound quickly, centered on large ETFs.

The market also has past cases where sharp declines followed large inflows. In October 2025, $3.42 billion flowed into bitcoin spot ETFs, but on Oct. 10 that month, a crypto market plunge led to liquidations of leveraged positions worth about $19 billion over 24 hours. Since then, bitcoin has fallen about 38 percent from around $124,700 on Oct. 6, 2025.

As a result, this ETF inflow is read as a short-term signal of a reversal in supply and demand, but it remains to be seen whether the trend will continue enough to reverse cumulative outflows for the year. A key point to watch next is whether bitcoin's sharp rise will keep drawing ETF inflows or whether it will end as a short-term rebound.
