The White House is expected to hold a meeting next week after inviting key figures from the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries, reports said.
Blockchain outlet Bitcoin Magazine reported on Aug. 13 that the meeting is being arranged to coincide with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) schedule for a new Innovation Advisory Committee meeting.
Figures from cryptocurrency, prediction markets and traditional finance are expected to attend together, reports said. The meeting is scheduled for the day before the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee’s first meeting, the reports said. The CFTC also plans to run a panel of experts from the same fields at the new committee meeting.
The schedule is drawing attention as it coincides with delays in Congress’s handling of the Clarity Act, a cryptocurrency market structure bill. Pro-cryptocurrency lawmakers had expected the bill to pass before Congress went into its August recess. But the vote was postponed and consideration has now moved into September.
The central backdrop to the meeting is seen as the idea that a slip in the bill’s timetable does not mean the policy direction has stopped. The industry has seen the long-awaited Clarity Act delayed, but regulators continue to pursue pro-cryptocurrency measures. Congress began reviewing a new draft of a bill that passed the House last month, and the text includes an ethics provision banning government officials from promoting cryptocurrencies or profiting through them.
It has not yet been confirmed whether U.S. President Donald Trump will attend. During the presidential campaign, Trump pledged to make the United States the "crypto capital of the world" and had received support from key industry figures. Since taking office, he has rolled out a series of pro-cryptocurrency policies. In March 2025, he also signed an executive order directing the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve.
Shifts in the regulatory approach are also continuing. U.S. regulators have withdrawn some major lawsuits they had filed against cryptocurrency firms. They are also showing moves to shift industry oversight in a more supportive direction.
Against this backdrop, the White House meeting next week and the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee schedule are being taken as a signal that the U.S. administration and regulators are widening their points of contact with the industry. With the Clarity Act vote pushed to September, the focus of policy discussions is increasingly likely to shift for the time being to follow-up steps by the administration and regulators.
