Metaplanet denied rumours it sold bitcoin after moving 5,014 BTC between custody addresses. Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 13 local time that Metaplanet Chief Executive Simon Gerovich (사이먼 게로비치) said the move was routine custody operations. He said the company did not sell bitcoin and that its holdings remained at 43,000 BTC.
Metaplanet moved 5,014 BTC over 24 hours from Aug. 12. The transfer was worth about $322 million. Gerovich said the network fee for the process was about $8.
Metaplanet is the third-largest bitcoin treasury holder among listed companies. It is the largest in Asia. Unrealised losses are about $1.4 billion based on Arkham data.
Metaplanet is also expanding related investment beyond bitcoin accumulation. In March, it set up Metaplanet Ventures and said it would invest 4 billion yen in bitcoin and cryptocurrency infrastructure in Japan over 2 to 3 years.
It is also maintaining its holding targets. Metaplanet set a goal of securing 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.
