[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Bitcoin breaks above $65,000 on the fallout from weak U.S. employment data, setting a new August high.

Cointelegraph reported on Thursday local time that bitcoin rose to $65,340 on Bitstamp, up 1.3 percent on the day.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data for July nonfarm employment showed jobs fell by 23,000 and the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent. The agency said the unemployment rate was little changed from the previous month.

Earlier job figures were also revised lower. May nonfarm job growth was cut to 63,000 from 129,000, and June was reduced to 20,000 from 57,000.

Markets linked the figures to the possibility of an easing in Federal Reserve policy. Cryptocurrencies and U.S. stocks rose together. The S&P 500 index rose 0.5 percent in early trading and the Nasdaq Composite index gained more than 1 percent.

Interest rate expectations also shifted. CME Group's FedWatch showed markets are pricing in the possibility that the benchmark rate will be kept at its current level at the September Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Until the previous day, a majority had expected a 0.25 percentage point increase.
