Empirical Security, a cybersecurity company, said on July 20 local time it raised $25 million in a Series A round led by Brightmind Partners.

Empirical Security's total funding increased to $37 million. The company plans to use the funds to develop and expand its flagship products, Foundation and Radiant.

Foundation is a global model that predicts threats by monitoring more than 18,000 exploited CVEs. Radiant is a prediction engine trained individually for each customer environment to pinpoint only the threats relevant to each company.

Ed Bellis (에드 벨리스), co-founder and CEO of Empirical Security, co-founded Kenna Security and served as chief technology officer until it was sold to Cisco. Michael Luitman (마이클 로이트먼), co-founder and CTO, previously served as chief data scientist at Kenna Security. Jay Jacobs (제이 제이콥스), chief data scientist, co-developed the vulnerability threat model EPSS (Exploit Prediction Scoring System). EPSS publishes daily scores for free, and hundreds of companies, including Tenable, Qualys, CrowdStrike, Microsoft and Wiz, apply them to their own systems.

Bellis said, "Even after selling Kenna Security, there were challenges we could not solve." He said, "It became clear that fundamentally new approaches were needed to confront AI-based threats and a growing number of potential vulnerabilities, and we have finally built the technology to provide predictive capabilities to security teams."
