[DigitalToday reporter Hwang Chi-kyu (황치규)] Adobe has added AI-based photo evaluation and editing suggestion features to its experimental iOS camera app, 'Project Indigo'. TechCrunch reported on Sunday local time that the update focuses on using a large language model to review photo composition, lighting, color and emotional impression and to guide how to correct them.

Project Indigo is an app released last year. It previously offered professional manual controls, multi-frame super-resolution and multiple shooting modes. The newly added photo evaluation feature offers advice in the form of expert opinion on composition, lighting, color and emotional impression.

The 'shooting and editing suggestions' feature tells users how to change framing, exposure and objects in the viewfinder when taking the same scene again. It also guides how to adjust an existing photo using Adobe Lightroom control tools.

Adobe also expanded button-driven features, instead of generative AI editing that depends on prompt input.

The update also includes advanced object removal and an AI-based depth-of-field generation feature. Users can toggle targets to erase, such as people in the background, trash and trash cans, power lines and poles, fences, vehicles and other clutter. They can also describe what they want to remove directly. The AI can also create a depth-of-field effect by blurring the photo background.

Adobe is also testing a style transformation feature. Photos can be converted into watercolor, pen and ink, colored ink line art, monochrome, or a backlit-subject mood. It also provides a feature that lets users describe desired edits in text.

These features use a Google Gemini-based tool called 'Nano Banana'. Adobe is also leaving open the possibility of switching to other models, including its own Firefly. The new features are being tested in the app's 'AI Playground' tab and are available only to some users. It is not yet decided whether they will be officially released.
