Indie game publisher Redbrickhouse said on Monday it has raised financial investment from Kakao Ventures and other investors.

The investment included Kakao Ventures as well as Devsisters Ventures, SmartStudy Ventures, MainStreet Ventures and Zion Investment. Redbrickhouse said it has gained recognition for the scalability of its indie game publishing business by securing financial investors after previously attracting strategic investment from Wemade Max.

Redbrickhouse, established in June, said it identifies promising developers in South Korea and abroad and provides broad support across game development, publishing, investment and fundraising. It said its business model is designed to work with developers on go-to-market strategies by game and support overall growth, from operating global services to expanding intellectual property rights and related businesses.

South Korea's indie game ecosystem currently has strong development capabilities but lacks global expansion partners comparable to overseas specialist publishers such as Devolver Digital and Hooded Horse, it said. Redbrickhouse said it focuses on reviewing marketability and user responses to improve game quality, and on supplementing global distribution capabilities that are difficult for small teams to secure on their own, from building global communities to marketing and business strategy.

The company said it is made up of game industry experts with experience in discovering indie games, publishing and global business. Co-CEOs Hyukjin Kim (김혁진) and Jicheol Hong (홍지철) led global indie game discovery, investment, mergers and acquisitions and publishing work at NeoWiz, it said. It added that a China game business expert who successfully led licence approvals and local expansion has also joined as a key member to support entry into the Greater China market, where barriers are high.

Redbrickhouse said it has secured domestic and overseas projects across genres including roguelike shooters, cooperative extraction games and action-adventure titles. It said it plans to continue introducing multiple games to global markets across platforms such as personal computers and consoles without relying on a specific genre.

Jiwoong Kim (김지웅), an executive director at Kakao Ventures, said Redbrickhouse is a team that can design market entry strategies with developers based on its understanding of the global Steam ecosystem and build user communities from before launch. He said he expects it to become a company needed in South Korea's game ecosystem by helping the country's indie games achieve results in global markets.

Redbrickhouse co-CEOs Kim and Hong said they are pleased that, following strategic investment, top venture capital firms have joined as financial partners, recognising the company's vision for the indie game ecosystem and its growth potential. They stressed that the company will be a reliable partner that works with promising developers from development through entry into global markets so they can fully demonstrate their creativity.
