[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Google has added a personal AI avatar function to its video creation tool, Veo, reflecting a user's face and voice.
On July 16, TechCrunch reported that users can upload a selfie and a voice recording to create a customised digital avatar resembling themselves and place it in videos.
Google also applied its multimodal AI model, Gemini Omni, to Veo. Users can create AI videos by combining text prompts with reference images. Gemini Omni merges these inputs to generate videos and supports replacing video backgrounds shot on a smartphone, adjusting lighting and adding effects.
The editing method has also changed. Users can now make step-by-step edits without recreating a video from scratch.
With this update, TechCrunch reported that Veo has moved beyond an existing AI-based business presentation tool and has come closer to an all-in-one video creation platform.
Google is using Veo as a business tool for Google Workspace, such as company announcements or training videos. With the addition of personal avatars and interactive editing features, the possibility that it will compete directly with AI video creation services such as HeyGen, Synthesia, Captions and D-ID has increased.
