Nvidia has unveiled a safety system, 'Nvidia Halo for Robotics', designed to allow humanoid robots to be deployed alongside humans, Axios reported on June 22 local time.

Halos is a system that integrates software, computing resources, sensors and inspection functions. It was developed based on Nvidia's experience developing autonomous vehicles.

Deepu Talla (디푸 탈라), vice president of Nvidia's robotics and edge AI division, described it as "an integrated safety architecture that extends autonomous systems into physical environments." The first customer is Agility. Agility plans to apply Halos to humanoids operated at client sites including Amazon and Toyota.

Pras Velagapudi (프라스 벨라가푸디), chief technology officer at Agility Robotics, said, "Humanoid robots need a much more sophisticated safety design." He said they need reasoning capabilities to determine what objects they can touch, move and apply force to based on what they see in their environment.

The humanoid market is expected to grow to $200 billion by 2035, according to Barclays estimates. Nvidia is focusing on developing software and chips rather than robot hardware.
