Microsoft unveiled a host of AI agent tools supporting Windows 11 native app development at its annual Build 2026 developer conference, Windows Central reported on June 3.
Microsoft released WinUI agent plugins for GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, the report said.
Existing AI tools, based on general-purpose training data, often produced results that were not optimised for WinUI 3 app development. The newly unveiled plugins come with WinUI-specific skills by default to help developers more easily build native Windows apps and shift existing apps to the WinUI 3 framework, Windows Central reported. Microsoft also previewed WinUI 3 templates.
Native apps offer relatively better performance and use system resources efficiently. Microsoft is rebuilding core Windows components such as the Start menu in a native way as part of its Windows K2 initiative. It also believes third-party developers need to join the shift to native apps to improve the overall Windows experience.
