Park In-hwan (박인환), head of the Korea Postal Service, visited the Anyang Mail Center on May 28 to inspect narcotics screening facilities and the handling of election mail, and encouraged staff.
The Korea Postal Service has set up spaces for narcotics inspections since last month at the Dong Seoul, Bucheon, Anyang, Busan and Central region metropolitan postal logistics centre mail hubs. The Korea Customs Service conducts inspections there of all inbound mail. It was found that three drug-containing parcels were detected over two months after the facilities were installed.
Park told staff on site, "I find it meaningful that the Korea Postal Service can contribute to the national task of blocking narcotics," and asked them "to do their best in supporting the narcotics interdiction line."
Park also checked the handling of mail for the 9th nationwide local elections to be held on June 3. He stressed accurate work to prevent disruptions in sorting and transporting mail directly linked to the exercise of voting rights.
He said, "I thank all of you for approaching your work with a sense of responsibility," and asked them "to do your best to provide perfect postal services so that the public can participate in the election with peace of mind."
