Meta has launched a separate app dedicated to Facebook Groups called Forum, TechCrunch reported on May 22.
According to the report, Meta describes Forum as a dedicated space for deeper discussion, real answers and communities of interest. It appears to be aiming to position the platform with functions similar to Reddit.
If users log in with a Facebook account, their existing groups, profile and activity appear as they are. Users can post under a nickname. Existing groups remain on Facebook, and content shared on Forum can also be seen in Facebook Groups.
The Forum feed focuses on conversations within groups. Meta explained that it shows what real people are talking about rather than trending content, and lets users continue viewing previous conversations.
Forum also has an AI-based Ask tab. When users ask a question, it compiles answers from multiple group discussions. It also has an AI assistant that helps administrators run groups and manage content.
Meta has built a groups-only app before. It launched a groups-only app in 2014 but shut it down in 2017.
Forum is one of two new apps Meta has released in recent weeks. Meta last month launched Instants, an app for sharing disappearing photos with friends on Instagram.
