Speculation that Strategy may have recently moved to buy a large amount of bitcoin (BTC) is drawing market attention to an 8-K filing set to be released on May 19 (local time).
According to blockchain outlet BeInCrypto, Chairman Michael Saylor (마이클 세일러) posted the phrase “Big Dot Energy” on X, formerly Twitter, on May 17, signaling another bitcoin purchase. Markets are watching whether the planned 8-K filing confirms the size of any large accumulation.
The signal follows a format similar to posts Saylor has repeated at the start of each week, but has attracted more attention amid recent funding flows. Data analytics firm Strc.live estimated Strategy bought about 15,466 BTC over the past 4 trading sessions. If the estimate is correct, it would be one of the largest weekly accumulations so far in 2026.
One indicator cited by market participants is trading volume in STRC preferred shares. STRC posted a one-day volume of 15.10 million shares on May 15, exceeding the previous record set on April 14. The community is focusing on the possibility that these funds were used to buy bitcoin.
Strategy recently repurchased $1.5 billion of convertible bonds maturing in 2029, with settlement expected around May 19. Even so, it is seen as having continued raising funds to buy bitcoin. Strategy currently holds 818,869 BTC, with an average purchase price of about $75,543 per coin.
Changes to STRC’s dividend structure are also cited as a variable. About 80 percent of STRC is held by retail investors using major brokerages such as Charles Schwab, Fidelity and Robinhood. Strategy is seeking approval to keep its annual dividend rate at 11.5 percent while changing the dividend payment frequency from once a month to twice a month.
The change would keep the dividend rate intact while shortening the cash inflow cycle. If approved, it could support demand for floating-rate preferred shares. It could also allow Strategy to continue its at-the-market issuance structure that has supported most of its funding for bitcoin purchases this year.
Whether Strategy makes additional purchases could also affect spot bitcoin supply and demand. Strategy is a leading example of a company that has maintained a corporate bitcoin holding strategy over a long period, and market interest in institutional and listed-company bitcoin holding strategies could rise again if the actual purchase size increases.
Still, there remains the possibility that community estimates differ from the actual filing. That is because it is difficult to say that increased STRC trading volume necessarily translates directly into bitcoin purchases. As a result, markets are watching the 8-K filing for confirmation of the scale of funding, whether bitcoin was bought and how holdings changed.
Ultimately, the market’s focus is on the 8-K filing. If the filing presents figures close to the community estimate of about 15,466 BTC, a bullish interpretation of Saylor’s post could gain support. At the same time, retail investors are expected to remain interested in exercising STRC voting rights ahead of the next dividend record date.
