OpenAI has launched a preview version of a personal finance tool for U.S. ChatGPT Pro subscribers, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. Users can link bank and brokerage accounts and ask ChatGPT questions ranging from spending analysis to future financial planning.
The feature is available on ChatGPT for the web and iOS. OpenAI supports account linking in partnership with Plaid. Users can connect accounts at more than 12,000 financial institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express and Capital One. After linking, users can view portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions and scheduled payments on a dashboard.
Users can start the feature by clicking "Get started" in the Finances section of the ChatGPT sidebar or by typing "@Finances, connect my accounts" in the chat window. ChatGPT then guides users through the account-linking process via Plaid. OpenAI plans to add support for Intuit soon. Once Intuit is supported, users will also be able to run analyses such as the tax impact of stock sales or the likelihood of credit card approval.
The feature comes a month after OpenAI acquired the team at the personal finance startup Hilo in April.
OpenAI said more than 200 million people ask ChatGPT finance-related questions each month. OpenAI also created a benchmark with financial experts to evaluate performance on personal finance questions.
Users can disconnect specific linked accounts in the Finances menu in the settings app. When an account is disconnected, synced data is deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days. Users can also view and delete finance-related memories on the same page.
OpenAI plans to improve the product based on feedback from Pro subscribers before expanding it to Plus subscribers.
