[DigitalToday reporter Sangyeop Oh (오상엽)] Toss Securities incorrectly displayed Kolmar Korea’s first-quarter results on its mobile trading system (MTS), causing confusion among some investors. As brokerage MTS apps have become information platforms that can affect investment decisions beyond simple order channels, critics say the incident exposed gaps in data verification systems.
Toss Securities on May 8 temporarily displayed Kolmar Korea’s first-quarter results in its MTS using separate figures rather than consolidated results.
As a result, Kolmar Korea’s sales were shown as 343 billion won and described as down 47.5 percent from a year earlier. Some investors are known to have sold Kolmar Korea shares after seeing the information.
Kolmar Korea’s actual first-quarter consolidated results were sales of 728 billion won and operating profit of 78.9 billion won. Sales rose 11.5 percent and operating profit increased 31.6 percent from a year earlier.
But Toss Securities’ MTS displayed separate sales of 343 billion won and operating profit of 51.2 billion won and compared them with last year’s first-quarter consolidated results, making it appear that sales fell 47.5 percent and operating profit declined 14.5 percent.
Toss Securities later corrected the wrongly displayed data. Some investors complained they incurred losses after trading based on performance disclosure alerts. Kolmar Korea shares closed up 6,700 won, or 7.71 percent, at 93,600 won on the day.
Market participants say broker MTS information such as performance data, disclosure alerts and stock community forums can directly affect investors’ trading decisions, and call for data verification systems to be overhauled.
Toss Securities apologized for the confusion and said it would prepare measures to prevent a recurrence.
A Toss Securities official said, "Kolmar Korea’s 2026 first-quarter results data was temporarily displayed on an individual basis rather than a consolidated basis, causing customer confusion." The official added, "We regret the confusion caused, and will strengthen our disclosure data verification procedures to prevent the same error from occurring in the future."
