Apple and Intel have reached a provisional agreement on manufacturing chips for Apple hardware, the Wall Street Journal reported on May 8.

Apple split with Intel after shifting its lineup to in-house Apple Silicon chips, but the agreement would bring the two companies back into a cooperative relationship. It is not yet clear which Apple products would use Intel-made chips, the WSJ reported.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported Apple was holding initial talks this week with Intel and Samsung Electronics on producing Apple processor chips in the United States. Apple currently relies exclusively on Taiwan's TSMC for chip production. Supply-chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (밍치 궈) said late last year he expected Intel to begin producing Apple's lowest-spec M processor from 2027.

Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan (립-부 탄) as its new CEO in March 2025, and in August that year the U.S. government acquired a 10 percent stake in Intel. Bloomberg reported Intel also sounded out Apple in September last year on potential investment and cooperation measures.
