Cloudflare will cut more than 1,100 employees worldwide due to the adoption of AI, The Register reported on Thursday.

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince (매튜 프린스) and President and Chief Operating Officer Michelle Zatlyn (미셸 잣린) said in an email to all employees, "We have decided to reduce the Cloudflare workforce globally by more than 1,100." Cloudflare said AI usage has risen by more than 600 percent over the past three months. It said employees across all departments, including engineering, human resources, finance and marketing, use thousands of AI agent sessions each day for work.

The job-cut announcement came just after Cloudflare reported a 34 percent rise in revenue from a year earlier and projected 30 percent future growth.

Asked by analysts why it was cutting jobs, Prince said, "There are roles we will not need in the future." He said productivity gains among employees who communicate directly with customers and write code themselves are "surprising," and AI can replace the tasks that supported them, meaning those roles will not drive corporate growth going forward.

He stressed that the job cuts are not about reducing costs but about placing the right people in the right roles to build for the future.

Cloudflare plans to continue hiring. Prince said, "In 2027, we expect to have more employees than in 2026," adding, "But roles are changing significantly, and bold steps are needed to make that transition."
