Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), second vice minister at the Ministry of Science and ICT, held separate bilateral meetings on May 7 with John Tanui, Kenya's vice minister for ICT and the digital economy, and Lulëzon Jagxhiu, Kosovo's minister for digitalisation and public administration, to discuss cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and data.
Tanui and Jagxhiu visited South Korea to attend the Korea Green Innovation Day held on the day.
Ryu first met Tanui to share key AI policies of South Korea and Kenya and discuss future cooperation. Ryu stressed that Kenya, as Africa's "Silicon Savannah", is systematically preparing for the AI era, and highlighted South Korea's AI capabilities that have recently been recognised by the international community.
Ryu also shared the status of Kosovo's ICT infrastructure and data governance with Jagxhiu and outlined South Korea's policies for building a data-use ecosystem. Along with the legislative status, Ryu introduced efforts such as building training data through an AI hub and a one-window platform linking public and private data platforms.
Ryu said he would share South Korea's AI strategy and real-world use cases with the international community and contribute to the shared prosperity of countries worldwide.
