LG Uplus is supporting children battling intractable diseases through an employee donation programme to mark Family Month.
LG Uplus said on Monday it will donate 5,000,000 won raised through "One Thousand Won Love" to support a child with a disability who is battling an intractable disease. Launched in 2019, the programme allows LG Uplus employees to choose to donate at least 1,000 won each month through payroll deductions.
The child being supported has been battling osteosarcoma since 2023 after cancer cells were found in a knee bone. The child was diagnosed last year with lung metastasis and is continuing surgery and chemotherapy treatment. LG Uplus said, "The child has some difficulty moving but is undergoing treatment with a positive attitude."
The donation was made in cooperation with nonprofit organisation Make-A-Wish Korea. LG Uplus plans to continue support through "One Thousand Won Love" so that children with intractable diseases can focus on treatment and, after recovery, dream again of everyday life.
Lee Jeong-bok (이정복), a senior staff member at LG Uplus who stepped forward as the employee representative for "One Thousand Won Love", will also take part in volunteer activities to help fulfil the child's wish. Lee said, "I have worked as a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish foundation since before joining the company," and added, "It is even more meaningful because the child support activities I have continued personally align with the company's direction for social contribution."
Song Young-dae (송영대), secretary general of Make-A-Wish Korea, said, "It is very meaningful to be able to fulfil the wish of a child with an intractable disease who has a disability together with LG Uplus," and added, "We hope this support will serve as an opportunity to create positive change."
