Apple warned that the impact of a memory shortage caused by an expansion of AI infrastructure could grow for its business.

On May 1, CNBC reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook (팀 쿡) said on a conference call after its earnings release that memory costs would have an increasingly bigger impact on the business and that the company would review several response measures.

Apple reported quarterly results that beat market expectations. Its revenue guidance for the next quarter also topped expectations. Cook repeatedly said there were supply constraints in the latest quarter. He said the impact from memory supply constraints was minimal through the first quarter of the fiscal year ending in December, but the burden grew in the second quarter and he expected some Mac models to be affected in the third quarter.

Rising memory prices are not only an issue for Apple. Microsoft and Meta also said in recent earnings releases that rising memory prices were a factor that pushed up their capital spending outlooks for this year.

Microsoft forecast 2026 capital spending at $190 billion and estimated the impact of higher component prices at $25 billion. Meta raised the top end of its capital spending to $145 billion from $135 billion to reflect a forecast of higher component prices.
