Stripe has unveiled a digital wallet called Link that supports AI agent payments at its annual conference, TechCrunch reported on April 30 local time.

Link is a digital wallet that connects to various payment methods including cards, bank accounts, cryptocurrency wallets and buy-now-pay-later services, the company said. It can store billing and shipping information. It also offers spending history, subscription management and payment method update features. It is available on the web, iOS and Android.

Link is designed to let an agent make payments without the user directly handing over payment information. If a user grants an agent access to the Link wallet via OAuth, a standard authentication method, the agent creates a payment request and waits for user approval. After receiving a notification on mobile or the web, the user reviews the transaction details and approves it, and the payment information is then passed to the agent.

Stripe plans to add features that let users set spending limits by agent or allow payments to be made without approval under specific conditions. It also plans to offer support soon for other payment methods such as agent tokens and stablecoins.

Link is based on Stripe's 'Issuing for agents'. Issuing for agents issues virtual cards to agents, enabling real-time authorisation, spending controls and transaction history checks.

Agents can make payments via a Link programmatic approach that provides one-time cards or through a shared payment token method based on cards and bank accounts. Stripe said developers and companies building AI agents or AI personal assistants can also use Link directly.
