Smilegate is stepping up its offline entertainment business by opening a large hands-on cat-themed park spanning about 60 acres on an idle site that once housed the former "Soinguk Theme Park" on Jeju Island.
Smilegate said on Wednesday it has opened the hands-on theme park, Dolkoriforest, in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju.
Dolkoriforest is a lifestyle content park that includes exhibitions, garden walks, art viewing and food and beverage experiences. It was built on about 60 acres of idle land that once held the former "Soinguk Theme Park", with a concept of a village decorated by cats traveling around the world.
The name Dolkoriforest was created by adding the village-name suffix "-ri" to "Dolkonaengi" (stone cat), a Jeju folk tale.
The space consists of the indoor exhibition hall "Dolkori Village" and the outdoor garden "Dolkori Garden". Dolkori Village hosts an exhibition that follows the traces of 5 cats, including Doldol, while Dolkori Garden displays works by Korean and foreign artists themed around cats.
It also includes attractions such as a miniature train, RC boats and a wooden ball playground, as well as a picnic zone and a small library. Smilegate plans to continue increasing outdoor sculptures and cat characters in line with the concept.
Lee Jung-joon (이정준), chief executive of Smilegate Cat Park Museum, said, "It is now time to bring the creative imagination we have built through games into real spaces." He added, "We will expand digital experiences into offline spaces to offer a new entertainment experience."
