Krafton set quarterly records for both revenue and operating profit, supported by broad-based growth of the PUBG intellectual property (IP).
Krafton said on Wednesday it posted first-quarter consolidated revenue of 1.37 trillion won and operating profit of 561.6 billion won. That compares with a year earlier, when revenue rose 56.9 percent and operating profit gained 22.8 percent. It added that first-quarter operating profit alone amounted to 53 percent of last year’s full-year operating profit.
Revenue by business segment was 363.9 billion won for PC, 702.7 billion won for mobile, 13.8 billion won for console and 291.0 billion won for other. Revenue from the Battlegrounds franchise rose 24 percent from a year earlier, with quarterly revenue topping 1 trillion won. In both PC and mobile, collaborations with vehicle brands Aston Martin and Apollo Automobil led demand from high-spending users and lifted results. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) recorded a 17 percent increase in the number of paying users. Other revenue rose by 285.9 billion won as results from the ADK Group were reflected.
Krafton plans to introduce a PAYDAY IP-based mode in Battlegrounds in May and to keep expanding user-generated content. It also plans a console port and multiplayer features for InZOI, which it released in early access, and is preparing early access for Subnautica 2. The company plans to offer differentiated play experiences, including applying its artificial intelligence model Raon and a beta service for PUBG Ally.
Krafton also carried out share buybacks worth 200.0 billion won and paid dividends of 99.6 billion won in the first quarter, and completed the cancellation of treasury shares worth 336.2 billion won. In the second quarter, it plans to buy back an additional 100.0 billion won of shares and cancel all of them.
