South Korea's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee closely reviewed the K-Moonshot implementation strategy and the status of bio AX, key tasks under the "Republic of Korea AI Action Plan," in the Chungcheong region.
Moon-young Lim (임문영), standing vice chairman of the committee, on April 28 inspected the national AI research infrastructure in Daejeon and the bio and medical AI industry in Osong. The move marked the third regional site inspection schedule, following visits to the Yeongnam and Honam regions.
Lim delivered a keynote speech at the "AI for Everyone – Forum on Building a Future Education Hub in the Central Region" held at the Convergence Education Innovation Center at Chungnam National University on the morning of the day. In the speech, he stressed, "In the era of a great AI transformation, universities must go beyond being mere transmitters of knowledge and become centers of innovation that cultivate core AI talent to lead the future."
Lim then visited the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) to directly inspect the status of building the sixth supercomputer and cases of opening AI computing resources for use by government-funded research institutes and universities. A meeting focused on discussing the status of K-Moonshot implementation, including building the "National Science AI Integrated Platform" that integrates core AI resources such as research data, graphics processing units (GPUs) and AI models.
In the afternoon, he visited the Osong Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation to review the status of the "K-AI Drug Development Project" being promoted through multi-ministry cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Science and ICT. The project aims to accelerate the entire cycle of AI drug development by supporting structure-based AI drug development and developing preclinical and clinical AI models.
At a subsequent meeting with companies, AI drug development firms including Arontier, AINB, HITS and Standigm attended and presented opinions to foster the industry, such as securing bio foundation models and improving systems tailored to on-site needs.
The committee plans to continue support with relevant ministries and local governments so the Chungcheong region connecting Daejeon, Sejong and Osong can grow into a national core hub for K-Moonshot and bio AX.
