Wemade said on April 29 it has wrapped up a dispute it had been pursuing against China’s Kingnet over unpaid royalties for the intellectual property of “The Legend of Mir 2” through a settlement agreement. Wemade received about 43 billion won in settlement money from Kingnet.

The dispute began after Kingnet’s subsidiary Zhejiang Huanyu did not pay royalties for “Namwoljeongi,” a game based on The Legend of Mir 2 IP that it has operated in China since 2016. Wemade agreed to withdraw all related arbitration and litigation procedures underway in South Korea, China and Singapore to reduce risks from a prolonged dispute and push ahead with its IP business in a stable manner.

Separately, on March 21 the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce dismissed in full claims filed by Zhejiang Huanyu in 2023 seeking to invalidate the licensing agreement and demanding damages. Through this, Wemade once again confirmed its status as the original copyright holder of The Legend of Mir 2 and its legitimate rights.

A Wemade official said, “This settlement agreement is a meaningful case that set the original copyright holder’s rights straight by holding illegal copyright infringement accountable to the end.” The official added, “We will continue to actively protect key intellectual property, including The Legend of Mir 2, and further enhance its value.”
