[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Logitech has unveiled the wired G512 X gaming keyboard that can use analog switches and mechanical switches together. The key is a hybrid design that offers both adjustable actuation timing and a choice of mechanical key feel.
On April 28 (local time), IT outlet The Verge reported that the G512 X will be released in two versions: a 75-key layout and a 98-key layout. The black model has purple accents, while the white model has teal accents. The launch date is May 2 and the prices are $179.99 and $199.99, respectively. Pre-orders are also under way.
The biggest feature of the product is its switch-compatible structure. Logitech said 39 switch slots support both major analog switches and 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches. It is designed so users can choose only the keys they want and replace them with a different type of switch.
For example, movement keys can use analog switches, while frequently used input keys can use mechanical switches. While existing gaming keyboards typically require choosing either mechanical or analog, the G512 X is differentiated by allowing both types to be mixed in a single product.
The core of the analog function is the TMR sensor. The sensor allows up to 2 actuation points to be set on a single key. Different inputs work depending on how far the key is pressed, which can be used for games that require fine control or fast response. Logitech said it also provides tactile feedback at the second actuation point so users can feel the activation timing at their fingertips.
The TMR switch also supports the Rapid Trigger function. This enables the next input to be recognized quickly even if the key does not fully return to its original position, focusing on improving response speed in FPS games or rhythm games that require frequent repeated inputs. These analog-based functions cannot be used if the switches are replaced with mechanical switches. Users can switch back and reinstall analog switches as needed.
In the industry, Logitech is seen as putting forward a strategy with this product to move away from competition centered on a single switch type and to emphasize both switch compatibility and input customization. As more users in the gaming keyboard market want Rapid Trigger and actuation timing adjustment, attention is focused on whether a hybrid switch structure will become a new trend.
