Apple's entry-level desktop, the base model M4 Mac mini, has sold out across the board, spreading concerns over supply instability across the Mac lineup.

IT outlet 9to5Mac reported on Tuesday that Apple has currently suspended delivery orders for the $599 base M4 Mac mini on the Apple Store. The product page shows only a message saying it is not currently available to buy, effectively removing it from the sales list.

The sellout is not limited to certain options. The M4 Mac mini with 256GB of storage has entered the same status across all models regardless of memory configuration. The situation is similar across external retailers. Major sales channels such as Amazon are offering only the higher-end M4 Pro version in limited quantities.

Inventory shortages across Apple's desktop lineup have been gradually worsening this month. On April 11, the Mac mini's 32GB and 64GB memory options first entered a suspended-sales status. As inventories kept shrinking, the base storage model has now sold out as well.

Supply is also not smooth for the remaining models. On the Apple Store, the 512GB M4 Mac mini is seeing shipping delays of about 6 weeks or more, and some configurations require waits of more than 9 to 10 weeks or are difficult to order at all.

The market is pointing to supply issues for memory and storage components as a backdrop to the disruption. There is a possibility that Apple is allocating limited component volumes first to the MacBook lineup, which has a relatively higher share of sales, pushing desktop Mac supply down the priority list. Some analysis also says expanding demand for personal artificial intelligence is likely to have stimulated demand for the Mac mini.

The market sometimes interprets sharp inventory declines as a signal of an upcoming hardware release. That has led to speculation that the M5 Mac mini launch is imminent, but it is difficult to be certain for now. The Mac Studio, which is facing similar inventory constraints, is also drawing expectations for a next model, but the specific schedule remains limited. Bloomberg previously forecast the M5 Mac Studio launch timing as October.

Ultimately, the situation is being read not as a simple sellout of some models but as an expansion of supply instability across Apple's desktop lineup. With sales halted starting from the base model and weekslong delays hitting higher-end models as well, the timing of supply normalization and any changes in product strategy are emerging as key points to watch.
