Kakao said on Tuesday it is strengthening cooperation with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to respond to voice phishing crime.

Kakao linked a KakaoTalk channel called the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Jjin Center, which provides guidance on whether prosecution documents are authentic and whether someone is impersonating an investigator, to the "impersonation warning" section within Kakao’s customer centre. It will support users so suspected cases can be checked and lead to reports.

Kakao plans to expand the scope of cooperation by introducing the Jjin Center channel’s content in Kakao Now within KakaoTalk and providing guidance on how to use it and on key cases. It also plans to send prevention messages during periods when voice phishing is concentrated and to identify banned words used to exploit crime and reflect them in its services.

Kakao also plans to continue cooperation with the National Police Agency’s Integrated Response Team for Telecommunications Financial Fraud.

A Kakao official said, "As a company participating through technology in solving social problems such as voice phishing, we are striving to create a digital environment," adding, "We will fulfill our responsibility as a platform through cooperation with public institutions."
