Samsung Electronics' latest wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, have been rated as a product optimised for Galaxy smartphone users.
The Verge, in a review of the Galaxy Buds4 Pro on March 15 local time, rated them as "earbuds that provide the best experience when used with Samsung devices."
The model goes beyond a simple design change, featuring an upgraded woofer and dual-amp-based hi-fi sound. A new blade design, improved active noise cancelling (ANC) and better call performance are also cited as key changes.
When connected to Galaxy devices, various functions are enabled. These include high-resolution audio support, Gemini and Bixby voice wake-up, head gestures, Auracast, automatic device switching and HD voice calls. Some functions can be used on other Android devices, but on iPhones, Windows PCs and game consoles it supports only basic audio playback and calls, along with ANC control.
Sound quality also offers a more balanced sound profile than the previous model. The earlier model tended to emphasise certain frequencies, but the new model has smoother midrange, making it suitable for long listening sessions. Bass may feel different depending on the track and can be adjusted through a 9-band EQ. When connected to Galaxy devices, it also supports 24-bit, 96 kHz high-resolution audio.
Noise-cancelling performance has also improved. It is strong at blocking low-frequency noise and handles the mid-frequency range steadily. Still, there are assessments in the market that it is somewhat weaker than some competing products, including AirPods Pro 3, Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and Sony WF-1000XM6.
Call quality has also been strengthened. A total of 6 microphones and a voice pickup unit reduce surrounding noise and deliver voices more clearly. On Galaxy devices, the Super Wideband (SWB) function can be activated to further improve call quality.
The design keeps the existing AirPods-style stem shape, while removing the LED and adding a metal strip to highlight a sleek feel. Capacitive controls on the side of the stem support volume adjustment, ANC switching, track changes and call controls. The price is $249.99 (about 359,000 won).
The Verge said the specifications show the Buds4 Pro delivers its biggest strengths within Samsung's ecosystem. It said they could be a strong option for Galaxy smartphone users, but cited as a limitation that some features may be restricted for non-Galaxy users.
