Deputy Prime Minister Baek Gyeong-hun (배경훈), who also serves as minister of science and ICT, visited Dalseong Post Office in Daegu on Thursday, a special mail-handling site for the Lunar New Year holiday. He checked the status of mail processing and encouraged staff for their work.

Dalseong Post Office is a key post office in southwestern Daegu that handles a range of mail and parcel volumes, including local specialty products. In August last year, staff took proactive action to prevent a customer from falling victim to a voice phishing scam.

Baek met employees at the post office and said their effort and dedication enable people to enjoy a warm and pleasant holiday. He urged them to pay special attention to safety and health management to prevent workplace accidents during a period when cold weather heightens safety risks.

Korea Post, meanwhile, has entered an emergency staffing system for the Lunar New Year holiday special handling period through Feb. 20. About 12,320,000 parcel mail items are expected to be accepted nationwide during the period. Korea Post plans to focus all efforts on operating 24 sorting hubs and three logistics centers nationwide.
