[Digital Today, reported by Yesleul Kim] Versan Aljarrah (베르산 알자라흐), founder of Black Swan Capitalist, dismissed concerns that stablecoins will replace XRP in the digital financial system.

On March 13, blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that debate is growing over whether stablecoins could replace XRP in global payment infrastructure. Some analysts say stablecoins could become direct competitors on the back of price stability, while others see the two assets as serving different roles.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Aljarrah argued that stablecoins do not threaten XRP’s role and instead act as complementary elements within the digital financial system. He explained that stablecoins mainly function as money, enabling transactions on blockchain networks without price fluctuations as digital tokens pegged to traditional fiat currencies.

XRP, by contrast, serves to provide liquidity. While stablecoins function as transaction currencies, XRP provides a liquidity layer that links different currencies at settlement, he said.

Several community members also agreed with Aljarrah’s argument. One user said, “Stablecoins provide price stability and a value peg, but XRP supports liquidity and efficient cross-border payments,” stressing that the two assets form a more complete financial infrastructure. Another user cited the traditional financial system, adding that stablecoins solve the currency layer while XRP solves global liquidity and payment problems.

Some scepticism remained that XRP could face replacement pressure after the launch of Ripple USD (RLUSD). Those concerns grew as the number of stablecoins issued by large financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase and PayPal increased.

Some also pointed out that after Ripple integrated RLUSD into its payment solution, XRP could move away from its existing role as a bridge asset. Ripple, however, stressed that RLUSD does not replace XRP but complements it. It said the two assets can function together as bridge currencies in cross-border payments.
