The National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy Committee reported to a cabinet meeting on Feb. 10 on the status of work to establish the "Korea AI Action Plan".
The AI Action Plan is a national-level AI execution strategy consisting of 99 action tasks and 326 policy recommendations. The committee set three main policy pillars: building an AI innovation ecosystem, a nationwide AI-driven transformation, and contributing to a global AI basic society. It prepared the plan after gathering a wide range of opinions.
The AI Action Plan aims to become one of the world's top three AI powers. It consists of three main policy pillars, including building an AI innovation ecosystem, a nationwide AI-driven transformation, and contributing to a global AI basic society, as well as 12 strategic areas.
The committee reported that in the area of building an AI innovation ecosystem, key tasks include win-win cooperation between AI companies and creators, a shift to a prevention-centered security system, and stronger linkage and cooperation across national AI and data policies. For a nationwide AI-driven transformation, it reported tasks including innovation in public services and government work methods, moving away from an application-based welfare system, and accelerating defense AX.
In the area of contributing to a global AI basic society, it decided to establish an AI basic society implementation plan by the fourth quarter of this year, following social deliberation, so that all citizens can benefit evenly from AI.
The committee plans to finalize the AI Action Plan, which includes the 99 action tasks, and put it to a vote at a second plenary meeting. After finalization, it will check the implementation of tasks by each ministry and move to create results that the public can feel.
Vice Chair Im Moon-young (임문영) said the report to the cabinet meeting made clear that the AI Action Plan is a national strategy that each ministry will pursue under a single direction. He said the committee, as the control tower for national AI policy, will actively support and coordinate efforts for the plan's finalization and effective implementation.
