MetaMask will support handling traditional financial assets such as U.S. stocks, ETFs and commodities directly on-chain.
Consensys, the developer of MetaMask, announced it will partner with on-chain real-world asset tokenisation platform Ondo Finance to integrate U.S. real-world asset-backed tokens directly into the MetaMask wallet through Ondo Global Markets.
Under the partnership, MetaMask users will be able to hold and trade tokens issued based on real-world assets such as U.S. stocks, ETFs and commodities directly in their wallets without separate intermediaries. Cases of real-world financial products being directly linked in existing decentralised finance services have been rare, drawing attention to MetaMask's move.
Ondo Finance has already tokenised real-world financial products such as BlackRock money market funds. Consensys said, "Allowing blockchain users to directly access U.S. real-world assets could change the way investment portfolios are built," and added, "We have opened a path to access global financial products while maintaining decentralisation and transparency."
