Tether bought an additional 8,888 bitcoin, bringing its total holdings to 96,000 bitcoin, Cointelegraph reported on Thursday.

The purchase makes Tether one of the top five bitcoin-holding companies, after Binance, Robinhood and Bitfinex. Tether is keeping its strategy of investing 15 percent of quarterly profit in bitcoin. The purchase is worth about $780 million.

Tether's bitcoin holdings fluctuated during the year. They topped 100,000 bitcoin in the first quarter, but some raised suspicions that Tether had sold bitcoin. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino denied this and said the assets moved to Twenty One Capital, which Tether supports. Twenty One Capital now holds 43,514 bitcoin, the third-largest bitcoin holding among listed companies.

Tether is also actively buying gold, in addition to bitcoin. It bought 26 tonnes of gold in the third quarter of 2025, raising its holdings to 116 tonnes. That is at a level that would place it among the top 30 corporate gold holders.
