Samsung Electronics has unveiled in South Korea for the first time a solution that applies AI Home to modular housing. Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday it will take part in "2026 Korea Build Week" at KINTEX in Ilsan and exhibit an AI Home-based "modular home solution".
The modular home is made up of seven areas: the entrance, laundry room, kitchen, living room, dressing room, bedroom and security. Residents can use Samsung Electronics' AI Home functions immediately by scanning a QR code to log in. Visitors can directly experience AI Home features applied across daily life, from returning home to rest and sleep and safety management.
Samsung Electronics built a 59.5-square-metre modular home in collaboration with Space Factory, South Korea's largest wooden modular housing company. Space Factory produces 1,700 modular housing units a year at a smart factory that combines AI-based architectural design with robot automation processes.
At the entrance, a smart door lock and AI door cam recognise people and automatically start recording if an unfamiliar person lingers. When residents go out, a home cam automatically begins recording and detects window openings to send alerts if an outside intrusion occurs. In the laundry room, the all-in-one washer-dryer "Bespoke AI Combo" completes a wash-and-dry course in time with the user's return home. Finished laundry is automatically linked with the "Bespoke Airdresser" in the dressing room to manage garments according to fabric type.
In the kitchen, the "Bespoke AI Hybrid 4-Door Kitchen Fit Max" refrigerator and kitchen appliances such as an induction cooktop, water purifier, oven and hood are linked to manage ingredients. In the living room, SmartThings' "Map View" function allows users to check and control home appliances, lighting and blinds at a glance.
In the bedroom, lighting and heating and cooling are automatically adjusted according to a bedtime routine set in the SmartThings app. If users connect to SmartThings and use AI energy-saving mode, the washer can save up to 60 percent and the air conditioner up to 30 percent of energy based on device usage patterns and the surrounding environment. It also provides a safety solution that monitors fires, leaks and door openings in real time.
Samsung Electronics first unveiled the "modular home solution" with Samsung C&T at Europe's largest home appliance exhibition, "IFA 2025", held in Germany in September last year. In November, it expanded the solution to domestic apartment housing through a collaborative exhibition with Korea Land and Housing Corp (LH).
Yang Hye-soon (양혜순), a vice president at Samsung Electronics' DA Business Division, said, "Through an exhibition of modular housing applying Samsung Electronics' AI appliances and SmartThings, it is possible to experience in more concrete terms the value and possibilities that AI Home provides in an actual residential environment." She added, "We will continue user-centred housing innovation through a 'modular home solution' that can be flexibly applied to various housing types."
